Factors Influencing the Choice of Infant Feeding Options Among HIV Positive Mothers Attending Health Facilities in Ogoja, Cross River State, Nigeria

This research project proposal examines the factors influencing infant feeding choices among HIV-positive mothers attending health facilities in Ogoja, Cross River State. Infant feeding among HIV-positive mothers remains a critical public health issue due to the risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and the need to balance infant nutrition with infection prevention.

The study explores mothers’ knowledge of recommended infant feeding guidelines, the role of healthcare counseling, cultural beliefs, stigma, socioeconomic status, and access to PMTCT services. It also assesses how fear, misinformation, and support systems influence feeding decisions such as exclusive breastfeeding, replacement feeding, or mixed feeding.
