ATTITUDE OF WOMEN TOWARDS UTILIZATION OF MODERN CONTRACEPTIVES IN AMENDOKHIAN COMMUNITY, ESAN NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, UROMI, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT
The immediate need to control the high fertility rates among women in Nigeria has attracted the interest of scholars in the academic world. There is still a great challenge of unment needs regarding contraceptive as the desired attitudinal changes towards contraceptive is yet to be achieved. This study is set out to examine the attitude of women towards utilization of modern contraceptives in Amendokhian Uromi, Esan north east local government area, Edo state. A descriptive survey method design was employed with a population of 100 respondents and a sample size of 80 using stratified random sampling technique. The result revealed that women have negative attitude towards the utilization of modern contraceptive. The majority 40% think barrier contraceptives is the most preferred modern contraceptives52.5% acknowledged that there is an increase in the use of modern contraceptives, 62.5% revealed that contraceptive may cause infertility to women and said that educational qualification influence women’s attitude towards contraceptive use. In conclusion, the study revealed that women have negative attitude towards the utilization of modern contraceptives.it was recommended that health workers should health educate women on the importance of contraceptives
