ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE PRACTICE OF STANDARD PRECAUTION AMONG HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN CENTRAL HOSPITAL UROMI, ESAN NORTH EAST, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT
This study assesses the attitude towards the practice of standard precaution among health care workers in central hospital, Uromi, Esan North East, Edo state. Heath care infection is acquired unknowingly during treatment of patients. These infections include HIV, Hepatitis B or C among others. Hence the need to find out the reason for its trend among health care workers. The objectives of this study include: the level of practice of hand hygiene as standard precaution among health worker, the level of implementation of proper sharp disposal among healthcare workers, the practice of sterilization of instrument and medical device and the attitude of health workers towards personal protective equipment as standard precaution in central hospital, Uromi, Esan North East, Edo state. The population and sample size is 23 healthcare workers. A total of 25 questionnaires were generated and a 98% retrieval rate. Descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages were used to describe demographic information of respondents. Results revealed that health care workers have significant attitude and practice of standard precautions. following these findings, the researcher recommend The government should encourage and motivate Health care workers to practice hand hygiene as standard precautions, Legislation should be made to monitor and enforce the implementation of proper sharp disposal , in conclusion, the result showed that there was satisfaction of sterilization of instrument and medical device. Also, Health workers should be reminded that infections have no respect or gender. Also, there is a need to use personal protective equipment in central hospital, Uromi, Esan North East, Edo state.
