FACTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR INCREASING CASES OF CRIMINAL ABORTION AMONG TEENAGERS [13-19] IN EWOYI SECONDARY SCHOOL UROMI ESAN NORTH EAST EDO STATE

ABSTRACT
Abortion is legally defined as the expulsion of the fetus from the uterus (womb) at any time before its term of gestation is complete. For practical purposes this must be reduced to emptying of the uterus prior to the time when the fetus is capable of survival; i.e., some time between the twenty-fourth and the twenty-eighth week of the pregnancy. This research was carried out in Ewoyi secondary school in Esan north east uromi Edo state on Factors responsible for increasing cases of criminal abortion among teenagers (13-19).One hundred and twenty (120) from Ewoyi secondary school were accidentally selected as sample 120 questionnaire were administered and retrieved immediately. Data collected were analyzed using percentage and presented in tables. The results shows that financial limitations, socio-economic status, peer group influence, low level of knowledge and Religious and cultural practice are factors responsible for Increasing cases of Criminal abortion among teenagers in Ewoyi secondary School. In conclusion, from the above Findings, recommendations and suggestion made on prevention and reduction in the increase in Criminal abortion. Government should provide awareness campaign on the dangers and prevention of criminal abortion. Also government should enforce law on abortion and offenders should be punished . The midwife should organize health education for teenagers on the dangers associated with Criminal abortion. Encourage community and family members participation in health and sex education of teenagers . Teenagers should be aware of that criminal abortion is very dangerous and should be avoided in other to prevent the dangers associated with Criminal abortion.
